36 Years.

Yesterday I turned 36. I have a tendency to treat birthdays how most people look at new year's resolutions.  Full of anticipation, new goals, looking back and looking ahead.  I enjoy taking an inventory of life to date.  And not in a material sort of way.  In a way of who I have met, paths I have crossed, what I have learned, where I have gone and where I want to go.  What's important.

Life get's busy and unless we make the effort to take the time to do this, we can lose sight of how we want to live our life.  With intention.

I had some great birthday singing phone calls, a very pretty ice cream cake, coffee courtesy of my boys and an all around fantastic day.  I also received a message from a dear friend who brought a little tear to my eye as she talked about my photography and the reasons she 'stalks' my blog (which of course I like to tease her about ;)).  But as I read the words of how my 'strong and steady soul' is shown in all of my images I couldn't help it.   Sometimes it takes a dear friend to point out the obvious.  And everything just makes sense.

And one of the best birthday gifts was that two of my favorite people let me take their picture.

SHINE.

Really?!?!  I never would have thought.  I hope in saying that that many of you can relate - and go out and do things, try things,  push yourselves beyond what you would have never thought would/should/could happen. I just recently joined the NAPCP organization this spring and was a little excited, albeit a little nervous to enter my first image critique competition.   It is one thing for clients or myself to fall in love with an image, but to go under the microscope of judges is something completely different.

I have so much respect for all of the great photographers that I am surrounded with, locally and as part of this organization.  I feel this was a true honor for me to be placed among them.

October 28, 2011 – Leigha Graf of Red Deer, Alberta has been awarded in an international image competition of The National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP).

Designed to recognize the world’s most successful child photographers, the NAPCP Image Competition called for images across a range of category subjects, including maternity, newborn, babies, children, siblings, toddlers, tweens, seniors and family. Graf’s image “Shine” received 3rd Place in the Seniors category.  Graf competed against thousands of image entries which were carefully judged by a blue-ribbon panel of experts based on impact, technical merit, composition and creativity. Leigha describes her style as modern, authentic, and emotional.

SPEECHLESS.

I strongly feel that as a member of this community and operating a small business here, it is essential to give back in some way.  This year I decided to support three local non-profit organizations providing items for their silent auctions at their events.  The Strive Dance Academy, The Chase Brewster Memorial Foundation and The Festival of Trees.   Supporting youth, people and organizations close to my heart and community betterment.  All very important to me. The first two charities held their events earlier in the year, while the Festival of Trees is coming up at the end of November.

Now, getting down to what this post is really about.  In preparation for my display the the Festival of Trees, I decided to contact my past and present clients to ask if they could provide me with a few testimonials to add to my slideshow presentation.

In opening the emails I felt overwhelmed.  Thankful.  Grateful.  SPEECHLESS.

I am not writing this post to tell all of you reading this what others have said about my work.  I want to write this to tell you what I have to say about my clients.

You are all of the amazement and beauty.  You are all of the inspiration.  You are all of the sunshine.  You are all of the stories.  I just take the time to see it and in hopes of being able to show it to you, so that YOU can see it too.

Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough.
